The body of a 14-year-old boy, Md Shakil, has been found near the zero line of the India-Bangladesh border in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria, a day after he went missing.
The body was found late on Saturday night (September 19) beside the barbed-wire fence in the Lankamora area of the Abdullahpur border in the upazila. Family members then went to the scene and identified the body as Shakil’s.
Shakil was the son of Malu Mia of Abdullahpur village.
Citing family members, police and BGB said Shakil had a mental illness. He had been missing since Friday (September 18). On hearing on Saturday night that a body was lying in the Lankamora area, family members went there and identified him.
The commanding officer of BGB’s 25 battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed, said that because the body lay on the Indian side of the border, it was taken into India for a post-mortem examination after discussions between BGB, the BSF and the police of the two countries. The body will be handed to the family once the post-mortem is complete.
He said it has not yet been established how Shakil reached the area near the zero line of the border or how he died. The cause of death can be established after the post-mortem report and the investigation by those concerned.
The recovery of the missing boy’s body near the zero line of the border has caused a stir in Abdullahpur and the surrounding areas. His family and relatives are in mourning.
