A father and son were killed in a motorcycle accident on the Lemua Hafizia Road at the intersection of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Feni on Tuesday (May 12) morning. Another person was admitted to the hospital with severe injuries. The deceased were identified as Nurul Alam (46) and his son Mohammad Nirab (25) of Rajapur village in Baktar Munshi Bazar, Sonagazi Upazila. Nurul Alam was an ambulance driver at Feni Diabetic Hospital.
Afzal Hossain (35), son of Siraj Mia of Lemua Union in Feni Sadar Upazila, was seriously injured in the incident.
Witnesses and the deceased’s relatives said Nurul Alam was traveling on Afzal’s motorcycle with his son and daughter-in-law on Tuesday morning. Around that time, as they reached the Lemua Hafizia area on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, they attempted to make a U-turn and collided with the Daudkandi Express bus coming from Chittagong. All three were injured in the accident.
Local people rushed to their aid and took them to Feni General Hospital, where the attending doctor declared Nurul Alam dead. The injured Nirab and Afzal were directed to be taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, but Nirab died en route.
Feni Diabetes Hospital’s administrative officer Sohel Rana said, ‘After finishing his ambulance duty at night, Nurul Alam was on his way to his sister’s house on a motorcycle when he was involved in a road accident. This resulted in the deaths of Nurul Alam and his son, Nirab.
Mahipal Haighat Police Station’s OC Asadul Islam said, “We have learned that one person died in the accident initially, and later another person succumbed to their injuries.” Legal proceedings are underway in this incident, he added.
