An agreement has been finalized with 17 banks to contribute 410 billion taka toward Bangladesh Bank’s 600-billion-taka stimulus package aimed at reopening closed factories and reviving the stalled economy.
The 17 banks that have agreed to contribute to the stimulus package are: Sonali, Agrani, Rupali, BRAC, City, Jamuna, Dutch-Bangla, Mutual Trust, Uttara, Prime, Bank Asia, NCC, Pubali, Eastern, Mercantile, Trust and Southeast Bank.
Bangladesh Bank announced the 600-billion-taka stimulus package on May 23, aimed at reopening closed factories, boosting private-sector investment and reviving the stalled economy. Of the package, 410 billion taka will come from commercial banks and 190 billion taka from the central bank.
The largest single allocation in the package, 200 billion taka, is earmarked for reopening long-closed industrial factories. Under this fund, the private sector will receive loans at an average interest rate of 7.5 percent.
