U.S. President Donald Trump has spoken by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his birthday.
According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday. During the call, Putin wished Trump a happy birthday and discussed bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington. Trump turned 81 on Sunday.
Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said that during the call, which lasted close to an hour, Trump again called for an end to the Ukraine war.
Ushakov also said they had agreed that U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would soon travel to Russia again. Putin told Trump that if Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wanted to hold talks, he would have to come to Moscow. Zelenskyy has consistently rejected Putin’s proposal.
The Kremlin statement said Trump informed Putin that a deal related to the war between the United States and Iran had been finalized.
CNN contacted the White House for comment on the matter but received no response.
The office of Ukraine’s president said on Sunday that Trump had also spoken with Zelenskyy by phone. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy wished the U.S. president a happy birthday.
Zelenskyy further said: “We had quite a detailed discussion on many important issues, which certainly included the matter of establishing peace.”
Referring to the summit of the Group of Seven (G7) leading nations being held in France this week, Zelenskyy added: “We agreed that we will discuss this matter in more detail at the time of our meeting during the G7 summit.”
