Students will be admitted to Class 11 in the coming academic year on the basis of their results in the SSC and equivalent examinations. As before, applications will be taken centrally online, and admission will be conducted on the basis of merit and preference order.
The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has sent this as a proposal to the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the education ministry. The chairman of the committee and of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, Professor Syed Aktaruzzaman, gave these details on Monday afternoon.
He said there would be little change in the Class 11 admission process this time. As last time, the draft policy sent to the ministry keeps admission based on results or marks, he said.
The SSC and equivalent results will be published on 10 August. They had first been due on 20 July but were pushed back because the education boards’ preparations were not complete. Students who pass will be admitted to Class 11 in the current academic year.
While admission to higher-secondary colleges and madrasas is based on results, church-run colleges such as Notre Dame College and Holy Cross College will hold admission tests, in line with a court directive issued several years ago.
Higher-secondary colleges and madrasas across the country have more than 2.6 million (26 lakh) Class 11 seats. This year, the total number of SSC and equivalent examinees was more than 1.857 million (18 lakh 57 thousand). As always, a large number of Class 11 seats will therefore remain vacant.
