Missing youth’s body recovered from Noakhali canal after 14 hours

The body of a youth named Saddam Hossain, 25, has been recovered in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali, 14 hours after he went missing.

His body was recovered around 2:30pm on Thursday (4 June) from a canal beneath an under-construction bridge in Khanpur village of Sharifpur union.

Saddam was the son of Hoksaber of Arju Member Bari in Hasanpur village, Ward No. 4 of the same union.

Saddam’s uncle, Md Imam Ali, said Saddam worked for the Igloo company in Chattogram and had come home for the Eid holiday. His middle uncle, Ayub, had returned from Abu Dhabi before Eid. On Wednesday (3 June) afternoon, Saddam cycled to the house of Rustam Ali Bepari in Goyezpur village, Sharifpur union, to meet his uncle.

Around 9pm Saddam set off for home. When he did not arrive, relatives began searching for him. Around noon on Thursday, a man phoned to report a body lying in a canal beneath an under-construction bridge. Relatives went to the spot and identified the body as Saddam’s.

Begumganj Police officer-in-charge Md Shamsuzzaman said that on receiving the news, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it for an autopsy.
