The death toll from Wednesday’s devastating floods in Nepal has risen to 332. Police said the bodies were recovered from eight districts across the country as of 3:50 p.m. Thursday.
Nepal police spokesperson Abhi Narayan Kafle confirmed the latest figures to The Post.
According to updated police data, bodies have been recovered as follows: 121 in Chitwan, 74 in Nawalparasi East, 29 each in Dhading and Gorkha, 28 in Nuwakot, 19 in Tanahun, 17 in Rasuwa and 15 in Nawalparasi West.
Earlier Thursday, Nepal’s flood death toll had been reported at 289. According to the new figures, the death toll rose by another 43 within a few hours.
According to the latest report from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, at least 826 people remain missing, including residents, security personnel, and domestic and foreign tourists.
Among the missing are 44 members of the Nepali Army, 28 from Nepal Police, and 13 from the Armed Police Force.
Additionally, 644 tourists remain missing, including 517 foreign nationals and 127 Nepalis.
However, news agency Reuters reported that roughly 1,500 people remain missing following the devastating floods and landslides in the Himalayan-adjacent regions of Nepal and Tibet, China. Among the missing are at least 800 foreign nationals from 28 countries.
The floodwaters submerged extensive areas of Rasuwa and other districts, surging downstream through the Trishuli and Narayani river basins. Settlements, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have suffered extensive damage as a result.
Government agencies and security force personnel are continuing rescue, search and relief operations in the disaster-affected areas, while efforts to gather and verify information on missing persons continue.
