BD Global Desk,

Police recovered the body of a woman named Nazu Akter, 34, by digging up soil in Netrokona one week after she went missing.

The body was recovered on Friday evening, September 25, from beside a cremation ground on the riverbank in Nagua village of Rauha union in Sadar upazila.

The deceased, Nazu Akter, was the daughter of late Islam Uddin of Katli village in Netrokona municipality. She went missing on the evening of September 18 from the house of her former husband Nurul Amin in Nagua village.

Police and family sources said the couple separated about a year ago because they did not get along in married life. A case over the matter is also pending in court. On the evening of September 18, the day of the incident, former husband Nurul called Nazu to his house by mobile phone, saying he would give her maintenance money. She had been missing since then. Three days after her disappearance, on September 22, her brother Shuvo filed a general diary with Netrokona Model Police Station. Model police then began an investigation.

At one stage of questioning, Nurul admitted to police that he had called his former wife by saying he would give her money, killed her by wrapping an orna around her neck and buried the body beside the cremation ground on the riverbank in Nagua village.

Based on that, police recovered Nazu Akter’s body by digging at the place Nurul showed in his presence.

Netrokona Model Police Station officer-in-charge Abul Khayer told Naya Diganta on Saturday, “A murder case has been filed in this regard. We are also looking into what other reasons may have been behind the killing.”
