China has said the United States’ new round of economic sanctions and pressure will not play any role in resolving the Middle East conflict. The country has emphasized political and diplomatic initiatives to end the conflict.
Speaking at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said: “Sanctions and pressure will not help solve this problem.” He called on all relevant parties to take responsible steps and resolve the crisis through political and diplomatic means.
China has long opposed unilateral US sanctions. Its position is that such sanctions, rather than easing tensions, make the situation more complicated.
Lin Jian’s comments come at a time when Washington has taken steps to increase economic pressure on Iran. At the same time, the United States is also pressuring China to limit its economic ties with Tehran.
