Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, has described prayer as an important source of Iran’s strength, hope and peace. He said this in a message to a conference on religious worship on Thursday.
Prayer is one of the fundamental duties of Islamic society and the main means of establishing a direct relationship between people and God, he said, providing steadfast strength and support in self-restraint and the struggle against “Satan”.
Prayer is not only individual worship but also a feature of a righteous, ideal Islamic system of government, Mojtaba Khamenei said, adding that in the current period prayer can play an important role in the Iranian nation’s struggle and in facing adversity, through remembrance of God, hope and trust in Him.
“‘Establish prayer’, God’s repeated command, is now more relevant and important for the Iranian people than at any time before,” Khamenei said.
Calling for prayer to be spread and institutionalised more widely in society, he urged families, educational and religious institutions, universities, cultural organisations and prominent figures to play a responsible role in promoting prayer, especially among young people.
