Schoolboy stabbed in classroom in Nabinagar, four detained

A sixth-grade student was seriously injured in a stabbing over a trivial dispute among classmates at Ibrahimpur Multilateral High School in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar upazila, police said. Four seventh-grade students were detained over the incident and handed over to law enforcement.

The incident took place in a classroom at the school around 11 a.m. on Monday (June 15).

The injured student is 12 years old. His mother filed a written complaint at the Nabinagar police station after the incident.

According to the complaint, the sixth-grade student was attacked over a trivial matter, said to be an accidental bump. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Police said the four accused are seventh-grade students at the same school, all aged 13, and all from Ibrahimpur village.

The four students were detained on the allegation of involvement in the incident, with the help of the school authorities and local people. They were first taken to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office and later handed over to the Nabinagar police station.

The injured boy’s mother said she had never imagined her son could be attacked like this inside the school. He is now in a critical condition, she said, and is being taken to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Md. Zakir Hossain, head teacher of Ibrahimpur Multilateral High School, said the upazila secondary education officer and relevant higher authorities had been informed of the incident immediately.

Nabinagar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Islam said four people had been detained on the allegation of involvement in the incident and handed over to police. The injured boy’s mother has filed a written complaint, he said.
