The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Restructuring (NICAR) has approved the formation of one new thana in Chattogram and three new upazilas in Chattogram, Comilla, and Mymensingh districts. The approval was given at NICAR’s 121st meeting held at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu confirmed the decision.
According to the NICAR proposal, the three new upazilas are: “Fatikchhari Uttar” (North Fatikchhari), comprising six unions of Fatikchhari upazila in Chattogram district; “Bangra,” created by dividing Muradnagar upazila in Comilla district; and “Pagla,” comprising eight unions of Pagla thana under Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh district. Additionally, “Halda Thana” has been formed by dividing Hathazari thana in Chattogram.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Law Minister Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Road Transport Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam, Housing Minister Zakariya Taher, State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, along with secretaries of relevant ministries.
