A three-and-a-half-year-old child has drowned in a pond in Halda village of Naldi union in Lohagara upazila, Narail. The accident happened at around 9am on Sunday (28 June). The child was the daughter of a school teacher in Halda village.
The child’s father said his daughter had been playing at home in the morning. Family members were helping with the construction of a new building at the house. While playing, the child fell into a pond beside the house. When the family could not see the child in the yard, they began searching, and at one point recovered the child from the pond and took her to the district hospital, where a doctor declared her dead.
Abu Taleb Mollah, member of ward No 5 of Naldi union in Lohagara upazila, said a mournful atmosphere prevailed in the area, including the child’s family, over the death.
