India has set out its explanation following the debate over the alleged harassment of the prime minister’s information adviser, Zahed Ur Rahman, at Delhi airport. The Indian foreign ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, said Zahed Ur Rahman had been travelling to India on his personal passport.
Zahed Ur Rahman recently went to Delhi to attend a conference, where he had to face obstruction at immigration. After sitting at Delhi airport for a long time, he eventually returned to Dhaka. Criticism followed the incident, and Dhaka summoned the Indian envoy and lodged a formal protest.
As the incident sparked controversy, India’s foreign ministry has finally clarified its position.
Randhir Jaiswal said Zahed Ur Rahman had come to Delhi on his personal, private passport and had a SAARC visa. After questioning at immigration, when it was established that he had come to attend a conference, he was allowed entry, the spokesperson said.
