Bangladesh and Turkey have discussed expanding cooperation in the primary education sector, teacher training, infrastructure development, curriculum modernisation and improving education quality. On Monday (8 June), a delegation led by Dr Ali Erjan, vice-president of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj at his office.
During the meeting, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj said Bangladesh wants to reach the level of progress Turkey has achieved in science, technology and innovation, which is why emphasis is being placed on developing skills in science, mathematics, technology and problem-solving from the primary level. He said the government is giving special priority to teacher training, a new curriculum, infrastructure development and digital education, and that international experience-exchange programmes are also ongoing.
Dr Ali Erjan said the state minister’s leadership and the plan for developing primary education were praiseworthy, expressing hope that the initiative would bring positive change in Bangladesh by improving education quality. After the meeting, both sides agreed on financial and technical assistance in the education sector, developing model schools, enhancing teacher skills and exchanging experience on pedagogical methods.
