Students protesting to demand the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon have taken position at the TSC, and tension is prevailing in the Dhaka University (DU) area over their face-off with police. At one stage, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was deployed on campus to bring the situation under control.

From Tuesday (July 14) afternoon, as a tense situation developed between the protesting students and law-enforcement forces in the university area, the BGB was deployed to control it. Earlier, in protest at the HSC examinations being held on Monday despite continuous rain and waterlogging, students of various colleges blockaded the Science Lab intersection in the capital for about an hour, demanding the education minister’s resignation. They then marched from there via the Nilkhet intersection into the Dhaka University campus.

At about 1:15 p.m., when police moved them away from in front of the VC Chattar, the students took position on the road from Nilkhet toward the TSC, after which a face-off developed there between police and the protesters. To keep the situation under control, the BGB was deployed in the Dhaka University area alongside law-enforcement forces.
