Dengue claims five in a day, the year’s highest single-day toll

Five people have died of dengue in the country in the past 24 hours — the highest single-day toll this year — while 124 people were hospitalised over the same period at various hospitals. So far this month, a total of 2,727 people have been infected and 13 have died.

The figures were given in a dengue press release on Monday from the Directorate General of Health Services’ Health Emergency Operations Centre and Control Room.

According to the release, in the 24 hours to 8am Monday, dengue patients were hospitalised as follows: 17 in Barishal division (outside the city corporation), 28 in Chattogram division (outside the city corporation), 2 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporation), 16 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 17 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 14 in Khulna division (outside the city corporation), 2 in Mymensingh division (outside the city corporation) and 5 in Rajshahi division (outside the city corporation). In the same 24 hours, 100 dengue patients were discharged from hospital.

The Directorate General of Health Services said 5,924 dengue patients had been hospitalised up to 29 June this year, of whom 66.5 percent were male and 43.5 percent female. Eighteen people have died of dengue this year — 2 in January, 2 in February, 1 in May and 13 in June. In the previous year, 2025, a total of 102,861 people were infected with dengue and 413 died.
