Four more people have died of dengue in the country in the past 24 hours, and 1,978 have been admitted to hospital. This year’s dengue death toll has risen to 249 and the total number of cases to 81,598.
The figures were given in a dengue press release from the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services on Thursday.
In the 24 hours from 8am on Wednesday to 8am on Thursday, 260 dengue patients were admitted in Barishal division, 358 in Chattogram, 328 in Dhaka division (outside the city corporations), 180 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 176 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 256 in Khulna, 94 in Mymensingh, 209 in Rajshahi, 101 in Rangpur and 16 in Sylhet. Over the same period, 1,809 people recovered and were discharged.
Of this year’s deaths, two were in January, two in February, one in May, 13 in June, 36 in July, 43 in August and 148 in September, the directorate said. Of all those infected so far, 62.5 percent are men and 37.5 percent women.
