Trading on the first working day of the week, Sunday, ended with a fall in indices on the capital market. Turnover declined on both the country’s main bourse, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), and the other market, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE). On the DSE, however, turnover crossed 1,000 crore taka. The information was learnt from DSE and CSE sources.
Market analysis shows that on Sunday the DSE’s main price index, the DSEX, stood at 5,639 points, down 21 points. Of the two other indices, the Shariah index fell 1 point and the DSE-30 index rose 2 points, standing at 1,148 and 2,145 points respectively. On the day, shares and mutual funds worth 1,002.43 crore taka were traded on the DSE — about 195 crore taka less than the previous working day. On the previous day, shares and mutual funds worth 1,197.21 crore taka had been traded on the DSE.
On Sunday, shares and mutual-fund units of 396 companies were traded on the DSE. Of these, the prices of 71 companies rose, 298 fell and 27 remained unchanged.
On the other bourse, the CSE, the overall index, the CASPI, stood at 15,354 points, down 104 points. Of the 226 firms that changed hands on the CSE that day, the share prices of 69 rose, 136 fell and 21 remained unchanged. On Sunday, shares and units worth 30.40 crore taka were traded on the CSE — 53 crore taka less than the previous day, when shares and mutual funds worth 83.39 crore taka had been traded.
