THAKURGAON — Police have filed a case against the upazila BNP president, Jamal Uddin, and eight others over the seizure of answer sheets from a Class IV staff recruitment exam at Medinisagar Technical and BM College in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon. Another 30 people have been named as unidentified accused in the case.
Harun Or Rashid, the acting principal of the college, filed the case at Haripur Police Station on Friday night, March 13. Md. Abdul Hakim Azad, the officer in charge of Haripur Police Station, confirmed the case on Saturday, March 14.
The accused include Jamal Uddin, son of the late Shamsul Haque from the Bashalgaon area and upazila BNP president; Moklesur Rahman, son of Motiur Rahman from the Bhabandapur area and a BNP leader; Erfan Ali, son of Golam Mostafa from the Tora area and a BNP leader; Md. Faruk, also a son of Motiur Rahman from Bhabandapur and a BNP leader; Masud Rana, son of Bhata Mohammad; and Md. Ujjal, son of Quddus Ali from the Mashangaon area, along with several others.
The recruitment exam for Class IV staff at Medinisagar Technical and BM College was held Friday afternoon at the office of the Haripur upazila executive officer. As answer sheets were being verified after the exam, the upazila BNP president and several other party members entered the UNO’s room, created a disturbance and took the exam papers, police said.
Rayhanul Islam, the Haripur upazila executive officer, said all activities had been conducted according to procedure when several people suddenly entered his room and caused disorder. They formed a mob and seized the exam papers from the examiners, he said.
Asked about the allegations, Jamal Uddin, the upazila BNP president, said he had gone to inform the UNO about an issue of money changing hands in the recruitment exam. When the UNO did not take their concerns seriously, his people took the papers and left, he said, adding that the papers were later returned.
Harunur Rashid, the college principal, said eight people had appeared for the written exam for ayah and cleaner positions. “After the exam we were sitting in the UNO sir’s room. From there, all our papers were taken away. I am going to the police station to take legal action,” he said.
Md. Abdul Hakim Azad, the officer in charge, said the acting principal had filed the case at Haripur Police Station on the night of the incident. The investigation is continuing, and operations are underway to arrest those genuinely involved, he said.
