Jamaat holds protest march in Gangni on uprising’s 2nd anniversary

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has held a protest march and rally in Gangni, Meherpur, marking the second anniversary of the July mass uprising, demanding justice for the killings, full implementation of the July Charter and in remembrance of the martyrs.

The march began after Asr prayers on Saturday (1 August) from the grounds of Gangni Model Primary School. It later went around the town’s main roads and ended with a rally at the Gangni bus stand square.

The rally was chaired by Md Rabiul Islam, Amir of Gangni upazila Jamaat and the party’s nominated mayoral candidate for Gangni municipality.

District Shura members Maulana Abdul Majid and Maulana Abdur Rahman, municipal Jamaat Amir Md Ahsanul Haque, municipal Jamaat secretary Was Kuruni Jamil and Baitul Mal secretary Zillur Rahman spoke at the event.

Speakers prayed for the salvation of those killed in the July mass uprising and expressed sympathy for the injured. They demanded a swift and impartial trial of those involved in the killings, and called for meeting people’s expectations through full implementation of the July Charter.

Amirs and secretaries of the upazila and various union units of Jamaat, along with leaders and activists at various levels, took part in the programme. The march and rally were held peacefully.
