Bangladesh received 286 crore U.S. dollars in remittances through formal banking channels in July, the first month of the current fiscal year. The amount was equivalent to Tk 35,210 crore at an exchange rate of Tk 123 and 11 paisa per dollar. The inflow rose 15.4 percent from a year earlier, Bangladesh Bank said in a report Sunday.
Bangladesh Bank’s data separately listed remittances in July 2026 at $285.90 million, 15.4 percent higher than $247.80 million in the same period last year. Remittances totaled $282 million in June, the final month of the previous fiscal year.
Formal remittances totaled $3,559 million in the recently ended 2025-26 fiscal year, up $526 million, or 17.3 percent, from $3,032.90 million in the previous fiscal year. The central bank described it as the highest remittance inflow in a single fiscal year in Bangladesh’s history.
Central bank officials attributed the sustained growth to government efforts to curb informal hundi transfers, cash incentives for expatriates, easier access to banking services and expanded opportunities to send money through formal channels.
