BGB seizes drugs, hilsa fish in Jibannagar border operations

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized large quantities of Indian liquor, marijuana and hilsa fish in separate operations along two border points in Jibannagar upazila, Chuadanga.

According to BGB sources, an anti-drug operation was carried out around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, August 22, in the area of Medinipur BOP under Moheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) in Jibannagar upazila. Led by Naib Subedar Md Lutfor Rahman, the operation targeted a bamboo grove belonging to a man identified as Kadar Ali in Medinipur village, about 300 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 63/2-S. During the operation, 32 bottles of Indian liquor and 3 kilograms of marijuana were seized, abandoned at the site. No one was detained in the operation.

Separately, BGB carried out an anti-smuggling operation around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, August 23, in the area of Goyeshpur BOP in Jibannagar upazila. Led by Subedar Md Abdur Razzak, the operation targeted a mango orchard belonging to a man identified as Boro Mia in the western part of Goyeshpur village, about 50 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 68/1-S. During the operation, 10 kilograms of hilsa fish were seized, abandoned at the site. No one was detained in this case either.

Munshi Emdadur Rahman, assistant director of Moheshpur Battalion (58 BGB), confirmed the incidents, saying regular operations to prevent drug trafficking and smuggling in the border area continue.
