Mozaffar, accused in Zia killing, arrested in crimes-against-humanity case

Mozaffar Hossain, an accused in the killing of BNP founder and late president Ziaur Rahman, has been shown arrested in a case of crimes against humanity.

He was brought before the International Crimes Tribunal-2 on Thursday morning, July 23. There, on the prosecution’s application, the tribunal ordered him shown arrested in the crimes-against-humanity case. It also gave the investigation agency permission to question the accused for two days.

Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam said a preliminary investigation against Mozaffar Hossain had produced evidence of various offences committed together with army officer Masud Uddin Chowdhury, from the controversial activities of the one-eleven government through to the July 2024 uprising.

Earlier, a production warrant was issued against Mozaffar on allegations of involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the Awami League government. In that continuity, the tribunal ordered him produced on Thursday.

Mozaffar was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) from the Banani DOHS area of Dhaka on the night of July 15. The matter became public the following day, and he was handed to army custody that evening.
