One student has been temporarily expelled from Jahangir Nagar University (JU) and another banned from his residential hall and campus activities following an assault during a World Cup match screening at the Selim Al-Deen open-air stage on the university campus on 22 June, the university administration said on Thursday (June 25) in separate office orders signed by the Deputy Registrar (Academic) and the Registrar.
The orders said the disciplinary action was taken in response to the incident that occurred while students were watching the Argentina versus Austria World Cup match at the campus stage.
Asaduzzaman, a student of the 48th batch (2018-19 academic year) of the Public Health and Informatics department, was temporarily expelled from the university under clause 4(1)(b) of the university’s Student Discipline Ordinance 2018. He may not remain in the hall or on campus during the period of suspension.
Separately, Shahanur Rahman, a student of the 48th batch (2018-19 academic year) of the Philosophy department, has been temporarily barred from residing in his hall and participating in any university activity while the investigation proceeds.
A five-member investigation committee has been formed to examine the incident.
