At an ASEAN meeting in the Philippines, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the US-Israel war had severely damaged Iran’s economy and military capabilities. He claimed that for the past 20 years Iran had spent more on missiles than on its people, Al Jazeera reported.
Asked by a reporter about rising US casualties, Rubio said: “If you are on a battlefield, there will always be risk.”
Rubio also claimed Iran’s military infrastructure had suffered extensive damage, while accusing its government of prioritizing military capability for years instead of spending on public welfare.
Asked about Tehran’s ability to strike, he added: “In my view, in the end this really proves that for the past 20 years Iran has been investing its money in this area.”
“Their military infrastructure has been extensively damaged, but for the past 20 years they have spent every penny not on the country but on patronizing the country’s armed groups and building up their missile and drone systems,” he said.
