The accused who were held are Moniruzzaman Pintu, 50, general secretary of the Jahangirpur ward Awami League in the upazila’s Singhajhuli union and son of the late Moslem Uddin of Jahangirpur village; and Rahmat Ali, 70, former president of the Mashila ward Awami League in Swarupdaha union and son of the late Mobarak Ali of Lakshmipur village.

The third man held is Idris Illi Mondol, 45, son of the late Lal Chand Nelo Mondol of Muktadaha village in Patibila union. Idris Illi Mondol is a fugitive accused in a murder case — a charge that has not been tested in court — and police arrested him from the Dhaka airport police-station area.
