CHOUGACHHA, Jashore — A prayer meeting and discussion were held in memory of those killed in the July uprising at the Chougachha upazila parishad hall in Jashore on Wednesday.
Farzana Islam, the upazila nirbahi officer, presided over the meeting.
Upazila Agriculture Officer Musabbir Hossain delivered the welcome address. The program was conducted by Upazila Social Services Officer Mehedi Hasan. Speakers included Assistant Commissioner (Land) and engineer Tasmin Jahan; Maulana Golam Morshed, chief of the Chougachha upazila Jamaat unit; Maulana Anisur Rahman, upazila chief of the Islamic Constitution Movement; Master Kamal Ahmed, assistant secretary of the Chougachha upazila Jamaat unit and former panel mayor; Maulana Abdul Khalek, chief of the municipal Jamaat unit; BM Rashedul Islam Ritam, leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; Ripon Mahmud, central publicity secretary of the AB Party; and Azizur Rahman, secretary of the Chougachha Press Club.
Heads and assistant teachers of various educational institutions in the upazila, officials of upazila parishad departments, journalists and members of civil society were also present. The day was observed with due dignity at various educational institutions in the upazila. Abu Sayeed, a student of the English department at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur and one of the prominent martyrs of the July 2024 uprising, was killed by police on July 16, 2024.
