Twenty families in Chuadanga affected by road accidents have received a combined Tk 8.2 million in financial assistance to support the families of those killed or injured.

The assistance checks were handed to the affected families Tuesday morning, August 18, at the deputy commissioner’s conference room, in a program organized by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), Chuadanga circle.

Chuadanga Deputy Commissioner Lutfun Nahar, as chief guest, handed the checks to family members.

Cautioning on road safety, the deputy commissioner said motorcyclists need to be more careful and follow traffic laws. Illegal and unlicensed motorcycles are unacceptable under any circumstances, she said.

She said valuable lives are being lost continually because of a shortage of skilled drivers and public unawareness. Reducing accidents requires both drivers and passengers to be aware and skilled. Everyone must play a responsible role in restoring order on the roads, she said.

Also present at the event were Additional District Magistrate M B M Khalid Hossain Siddiqui, BRTA Chuadanga circle Assistant Director (Engineering) Liton Biswas, Traffic Inspector (City and Vehicles) Amirul Islam, District Bus-Minibus Coach and Microbus Workers Union President M General Islam, District Road Transport Owners Association General Secretary Moinuddin, and Nirapad Sarak Chai (Road Safety) Chuadanga branch General Secretary Zakir Hossain.

Speakers said road accidents don’t just take a single life; they often shake a family’s financial and social foundation. Medical costs for the injured, and the uncertainty a family faces after losing an earning member, follow such accidents. In these circumstances, government assistance plays an important role for affected families.

Tk 8.2 million in assistance was distributed to 20 families at the event. Officials said that alongside financial assistance for accident victims, effective, long-term measures to prevent road accidents are also essential.
