Couple jailed in Chuadanga drug case

Police raided Kachadanga village in Chuadanga’s Jibannagar upazila and arrested a couple with yaba and cannabis, and a mobile summary trial court has sentenced each of them to one year’s simple imprisonment. The senior judicial magistrate’s court in Chuadanga handed down the verdict on Saturday (July 11) afternoon.

Those sentenced are Aker Ali Mondol, 65, son of the late Hazrat Ali Mondol of Kachadanga village in Jibannagar upazila, and his wife Feruza Khatun, 40.

Police said that, on the directions of Chuadanga Superintendent of Police Ruhul Kabir Khan, a team led by Jibannagar police station’s officer-in-charge Solaiman Sheikh, with sub-inspector Hafizul Islam and a force, raided Kachadanga village around 5 a.m. on Saturday (July 11) on a tip-off. Seven yaba tablets and 50 grams of cannabis were recovered from the couple, who were then arrested. They were produced before the summary trial court in Chuadanga in the afternoon, which sentenced each to one year’s simple imprisonment. Jibannagar OC Solaiman Sheikh confirmed that the two convicts were sent to Chuadanga district jail after the verdict.
