The Department of Narcotics Control has arrested an Awami League leader named Delwar Hossain, 45, with 2,650 yaba pills during a raid on a bus in Chuadanga.
He was arrested in the raid at around 1pm on Saturday (September 19) at Chuadanga municipal bus terminal.
Delwar is the son of the late Ismail Hossain of the C&B Para area in Chuadanga municipality. He is a former president of Alamdanga municipal Awami League and a former vice-chairman of Alamdanga upazila council.
The Department of Narcotics Control said a search was carried out, on the basis of confidential information, on a Purbasha Paribahan bus standing at the bus terminal. Delwar was arrested there with 2,650 yaba pills. Initial information suggests an attempt was being made to traffic the drugs.
Chuadanga Sadar police station’s officer-in-charge, Maruf Hossain, said Rafiqul Islam, deputy director of the Department of Narcotics Control in Chuadanga, had filed a case under the narcotics control act over the incident.
