The 60-day period some reports have associated with the Iran-US Islamabad agreement expired Monday. Asked about it, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said: “First of all, there is no such thing. The agreement does not mention any 60-day deadline.”
He added: “Iran is not a party that changes its policy under pressure or a set deadline. We make our decisions based on our national interest and our own assessment.”
Asked about various reports on mediation between Iran and the United States, he said Pakistan continues to serve as a mediator on matters between Iran and the US, and that Qatar is also making efforts on this front. However, he said, the core problem between Iran and the United States is not really about mediators — it lies in Washington’s outlook and position.
Baghaei also said Tehran is working continuously to clarify the fate and current status of three Iranian pilots detained in Qatar. He said Iran’s demand of Qatar is that the pilots’ current status be clarified.
