Continuous rainfall and waterlogging in Chattogram have submerged a railway line, forcing the temporary suspension of the Cox’s Bazar-bound “Parjatak Express.”

The decision was made after water accumulated on the railway line near Sholoshahar station in Chattogram on Tuesday afternoon.

Railway sources said the train was passing through the Sholoshahar station area around 1:30pm on Tuesday when heavy rain caused water to accumulate on the tracks. To avoid a major mechanical failure or accident from water entering the engine, the driver stopped the train. It has remained stranded in the area since.

A railway official confirming the matter said the train is currently being held for passenger safety while the situation is monitored. According to the latest information from the railway control room, train movement has been suspended for now.

To reduce passenger hardship, authorities are preparing to bring in another engine to pull the train back to Chattogram. The sudden halt has caused severe distress for Cox’s Bazar-bound passengers, with many — particularly those traveling with women and children — anxious about the situation.

Railway authorities said they are making every effort to normalize the situation quickly and ensure passenger safety.
