A 5-year-old boy has died in Chuadanga after being bitten by a venomous snake.

An emergency-department physician at the hospital declared him dead early Monday morning, August 17.

The boy’s family was originally from Meherpur district’s Gangni upazila.

According to family members, the boy had been sleeping with relatives on the night of Sunday into Monday when he was bitten by a snake around 3:00 a.m. No one in the family immediately realized what had happened. His condition later began to deteriorate rapidly, and the family rushed him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

There, an emergency-department physician examined him early Monday and declared him dead.

The boy’s father said the family did not realize at first that their son had been bitten by a snake in his sleep. By the time his condition worsened and they rushed him to the hospital, he had already died.

Dr Golam Morshed, a physician in the emergency department at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital, said the boy had died before reaching the hospital. Relatives brought him to the emergency department already dead.
