Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhtar Ahmed inspected the polling booth at the National Parliament ahead of the 23rd presidential election. EC officials disclosed the visit Monday, August 17.

A seven-member delegation led by EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed inspected the presidential election’s polling booth — the parliament’s session chamber — officials said.

EC officials said voting will take place in the parliament’s session chamber from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on August 20.

After ballots are distributed to members, they will sign and cast their votes in one of three ballot boxes.

Vote counting will begin immediately after polling closes at 5:00 p.m.

The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) will announce the valid votes cast out of a total of 349 ballots and the votes received by each candidate. Gazette notification procedures will then be completed at the Secretariat.

Under the announced schedule, August 18 is the last day for candidates to withdraw. If more than one candidate remains in the race after that, voting will be held on August 20.

BNP and its allied parties’ candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance’s candidate Oli Ahmed are contesting the election.
