GANNI (Meherpur) Representative:
Despite serving as a vital force in the country’s pharmaceutical industry and healthcare services, medical representatives still lack social and institutional recognition. On Tuesday morning, representatives from various pharmaceutical companies gathered in Ganni, Meherpur, to hold a human chain and protest demanding professional respect, fixed working hours, and a safe work environment.
The human chain, organized by the Ganni Upazilla Pharmacy, took place on a main street of Ganni town. Medical representatives from different pharmaceutical companies participated by carrying banners, festoons, and placards. They stated that medical representatives play a crucial role in connecting pharmaceutical companies and doctors with hospitals, ensuring the availability of medicines and healthcare information. Yet, they have been working in undervalued and unsafe conditions for a long time.
Speakers at the human chain said that even during the COVID-19 pandemic when people were confined to their homes, medical representatives risked their lives to deliver medicines and healthcare information to hospitals and doctors. Their contribution to elevating the country’s pharmaceutical industry to an international level is undeniable.
Ganni Upazilla Pharmacy President Mohammad Ali Hossain (Concord Pharma) stated, “Medical representatives are not middlemen; they are carriers of information in modern medical science. While this profession is held in high regard in developed countries, it still lacks proper recognition in Bangladesh.”
General Secretary Islam Ali (Bato Pharma) said, “We seek fixed working hours, a safe work environment, and professional respect. Despite playing a crucial role in the country’s healthcare system, we are deprived of due respect.”
Also present at the event were Deputy Director Mohammad Abu Shama (Globe Pharma), Member Mohammad Harun Rashid (Skytar Pharma), Member Mohammad Liton Hossain (Somatex Pharma), and Member Mohammad Sohail Rana, along with representatives from various pharmaceutical companies.
After the human chain, speakers urged concerned authorities to take prompt action. Their demand is that proper recognition and respect for this profession, which is linked to healthcare services, will further strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
