Bangladesh Bank governor Md Mostakur Rahman has expressed interest in expanding the use of Bangla QR, and in India’s experience and possible technical cooperation in cross-border digital payments.
He expressed that interest on Tuesday at a meeting with Dinesh Trivedi, India’s high commissioner to Bangladesh. The meeting was held at Bangladesh Bank’s head office. The information came in a press release from Bangladesh Bank.
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral economic, commercial and financial relations between Bangladesh and India. Governor Mostakur Rahman called on India to increase its imports of goods from Bangladesh in order to improve the trade balance.
India’s high commissioner stressed making foreign investment easier. Md Mostakur Rahman said Bangladesh Bank had already taken several investment-friendly policy measures, under which foreign investors will be able to repatriate their invested funds and profits to their own countries easily. He called for more Indian investment in Bangladesh’s technology-based, production-oriented and industrial sectors.
Deputy governors Habibur Rahman and Sarwar Hossain, India’s deputy high commissioner Pawankumar Badhe, and second secretary (economics and commerce) Gaurav Kumar Agarwal were present at the meeting.
