House rent allowance by area under new pay scale

The government has issued the notification on new pay and allowances for government officials and employees. The Finance Division issued the notification on Saturday.

Published under the title Services (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2026, the notification fixes, among other matters, the rates of house rent allowance by area and by grade.

Under the notification, employees serving in the Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporation areas whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 20 and the highest step of grade 16 will receive house rent at 60 percent of basic pay. Those whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 15 and the highest step of grade 10 will receive 50 percent. Those whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 9 and the highest step of grade 5 will receive 45 percent.

Employees from the lowest step of grade 4 up to grade 1 and above will receive house rent at 40 percent of basic pay in the Dhaka North and Dhaka South city corporation areas.

The notification says the rates are somewhat lower for the Khulna, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Sylhet, Barisal, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur, Mymensingh and Bogura city corporations and for the Savar and Cox’s Bazar municipal areas. In those areas, employees whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 20 and the highest step of grade 16 will receive house rent at 50 percent of basic pay.

In the same areas, employees whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 15 and the highest step of grade 10 will receive 40 percent; those between the lowest step of grade 9 and the highest step of grade 5 will receive 35 percent; and those from the lowest step of grade 4 up to grade 1 and above will receive house rent at 30 percent of basic pay.

The rate in other areas

For other areas, employees whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 20 and the highest step of grade 16 will receive house rent at 45 percent of basic pay. Those whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 15 and the highest step of grade 10 will receive it at 35 percent.

The notification says employees whose pay falls between the lowest step of grade 9 and the highest step of grade 5 will receive 30 percent, and those from the lowest step of grade 4 up to grade 1 and above will receive house rent at 25 percent of basic pay.

What employees receive now

At present, employees in the Dhaka city corporation area whose basic pay is up to 9,700 taka receive house rent at 65 percent, subject to a minimum of 5,600 taka. Where basic pay is between 9,701 taka and 16,000 taka, house rent is paid at 60 percent, subject to a minimum of 6,400 taka.

Where basic pay runs from 16,001 taka to 35,500 taka, house rent is paid at 55 percent, subject to a minimum of 9,600 taka. Where basic pay is above 35,501 taka, house rent in the Dhaka city corporation area is paid at 50 percent, subject to a minimum of 19,500 taka. For other areas, the current rates and minimum amounts differ.
