An international Islamic scholarly seminar was held in Dhaka to mark the full 17-volume publication of “Kifayat al-Mughtazi fi Sharh Jami’ al-Tirmidhi,” an Arabic commentary on Jami’ at-Tirmidhi written by hadith scholar and researcher Maulana Abdul Matin.

Muassasah Ilmiyyah Bangladesh organized the seminar, titled “The Salaf’s Method in Following Hadith: Jami’ at-Tirmidhi and Kifayat al-Mughtazi,” at the Krishibid Institution auditorium on Wednesday.

Scholars, hadith specialists, researchers and educators from Bangladesh and abroad discussed the work’s research value, international relevance and contribution to hadith studies.

The chief guest, Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani, rector and Shaykh al-Hadith of Darul Uloom Deoband in India, said the book was the result of many years of sustained work and research. That was his assessment.

Author and researcher Maulana Abul Bashar said the work was an important Bangladeshi contribution to hadith studies after nearly three decades of scholarship. Organizers said the first four volumes had drawn interest from South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.

Abdul Matin said he began research for the book after starting to teach Jami’ at-Tirmidhi in 2001. He said the main writing was completed between 2017 and 2025 after about 26 years of research, study of thousands of books and many sleepless nights.

Selected 100 talented students received free full sets of the 17-volume work. The seminar concluded with prayers led by Maulana Mahmudul Hasan, rector of Jamiatul Uloomil Islamia Dhaka.
