US announces $15.5 million in emergency aid for quake-hit Colombia

After a powerful earthquake killed more than 100 people in the South American country of Colombia, the United States on Monday announced a $15.5 million emergency aid package for the country. The news agency AFP reported this from Washington.

In a post on X, the US State Department said: “We stand in prayer with the people of Colombia and are ready to assist President Abelardo de la Espriella.”

The United States announced the aid three days after this Washington-backed leader took office as Colombia’s president.
