Russia awards 200 scholarships to Bangladeshi students, up from 65 in 2018

The number of Russian government scholarships for Bangladeshi students has risen from 65 in 2018 to 200 in 2026, creating opportunities for more students to pursue higher education in Russia.

The Russian House in Dhaka presented the figures at its semi-annual press conference on Wednesday (July 1). Director Alexandra Khlevnoi highlighted the steady progress in educational cooperation between Bangladesh and Russia.

Media representatives, educational institution delegates, participants in Russia’s international education and youth programs, and invited guests attended the event, which reviewed the Russian House’s activities in the first half of 2026 and outlined new opportunities in education, science, culture, and youth cooperation between the two countries.

Scholarship recipient Farzana Yasmin, currently pursuing a master’s degree in global and digital media at the Faculty of Philology, Mass Communication Department, at the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in Moscow, joined online to share her experience of studying, living, and accessing facilities available to international students in Russia.

Five Bangladeshi representatives attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2026 under Russia’s international youth program: Syed Raihan Ul Islam of Daffodil International University, Touhid Bin Shafi and Sakib Asad Khan of Canadian University of Bangladesh, and Dr. Barek Kaisar of the University of Development Alternative. They shared their experiences of international networking and professional development at the forum.

Director Khlevnoi also discussed the World Youth Festival, the Eastern Economic Forum, and the New Generation Program, through which young Bangladeshis can participate in fully funded education, culture, and international exchange activities in Russia.

Six Bangladeshi students were selected through a competitive process for the Children for Peace international conference, where they joined students from around the world in activities related to education, culture, and peacebuilding.
