Iran’s supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has adopted a strategy of moving the war from a defensive to an offensive phase if Iran’s conditions are not met, and that strategy will change the global balance of power, according to Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser and associate of Khamenei. He made the comment in a social media post on Thursday. BD Global Times could not independently verify the claims.
In a statement on Apr 30, Mojtaba Khamenei said Iran was entering a new phase in its approach to the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
Mokhber said the new situation around the Strait of Hormuz, and the failure of the United States to protect its Gulf allies, had laid the basis for the change.
He said Iran’s conditions included a permanent end to war and aggression, the withdrawal of US military forces from Iran’s surroundings, the payment of compensation, the lifting of sanctions and the unconditional release of Iran’s frozen assets.
Mokhber also said that because of Washington’s inability to protect its allies in the Gulf, building a new Hormuz-centred economic and security arrangement without US military guarantees would be the most durable path for the region.
