WASHINGTON — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the military operation in Iran has ended. He made the announcement at a White House briefing on Tuesday.

Responding to a question from the U.S. news outlet ABC News, Rubio said the military operation the United States had launched in Iran on Feb. 28, called “Operation Epic Fury,” had concluded.

“U.S. defense forces have completed ‘Operation Epic Fury’ in Iran. The goal we set out to achieve has been achieved,” Rubio said. “We are now working on ‘Project Freedom.'”

Noting that the United States has no plans for any new military operation in Iran, he added: “We do not want any new situation to develop on the Iran issue. We prefer the path of peace. Our president wants a deal. He wants the Strait of Hormuz to be fully reopened, so the world can return to its previous state.”

Rubio said, “Questions about Iran’s nuclear program will be resolved through negotiations.”
