U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Iran to either hand its highly enriched uranium to the United States or destroy it under international supervision.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Trump said Iran’s enriched uranium — which he called “nuclear dust” — must either be turned over to the United States immediately, or destroyed inside Iran or at another acceptable location in the presence of international observers.

Enriched uranium must be either handed to the United States and destroyed, or, preferably, destroyed in Iran itself or at another acceptable location in coordination with the Islamic Republic, he wrote. The Atomic Energy Commission or an equivalent international body would be present throughout the process, he said.

Since the Middle East war began on Feb. 28, Trump has repeatedly said his main aim is to prevent Iran from using enriched uranium to build a nuclear weapon.

Tehran has consistently said its nuclear program is not military in purpose and that it has never planned to build a nuclear weapon.
