Anis Ahmed has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Eastern Bank PLC (EBL). His appointment took effect from Monday. He previously served as chairman of the board’s executive committee and of its risk management committee (RMC).
The information was given in a press release from the bank on Wednesday.
It said Anis Ahmed is the founder and chief executive officer of MGH Group, a Singapore-based multinational company. The group, which operates in 26 countries, has businesses spanning fast fashion, e-commerce, supply chain solutions in the automotive and electronics sectors, private container terminals, an airline, a global distribution system, logistics, food and beverage retail and financial services.
He is also the founder of the ride-sharing platform Obhai, the insurtech company Wadaa and the accommodation aggregation platform Jatra. For the past decade he has worked on building innovation and technology-based entrepreneurship in the country.
On taking charge as chairman, Anis Ahmed said priority would be given to strengthening the bank’s financial base further, advancing digital transformation and improving the quality of customer service.
The press release said EBL would work under his leadership with the aim of becoming one of the country’s leading financial institutions.
