Public support for US President Donald Trump’s decision to carry out military action in Iran has fallen significantly. A new opinion poll shows his popularity on the issue has slipped close to a historic low.
In a poll conducted by The Washington Post, Trump’s net approval on his handling of the Iran conflict stood at minus 40. CNN’s chief data analyst, Harry Enten, described the result as “historically very unpopular.”
The poll also found that support for the military action has fallen steadily since the conflict began. Support for the operation is currently at one of the lowest levels among modern US military interventions.
According to analysts, the poll result signals that opposition among the American public to the Trump administration’s military steps on the Iran issue is steadily growing.
