Sacked Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhailo Fedorov has criticized the scale of corruption in the country, saying widespread corruption is standing in the way of ending the war and rebuilding Ukraine.
In a television interview, Fedorov said Ukraine’s current government structure, its existing decision-making methods, and the current scale of corruption make it impossible to effectively end the war and create an environment suitable for rebuilding the country.
The sacked defense minister further said the problem is not confined to any one individual. In his words, hundreds of people within the Ukrainian government are tied into networks of corruption, profiting from public funds for years on end. As a result, he said, the process of making sound decisions has slowed down.
He also said a recent anti-corruption operation in Ukraine targeted, among other things, an organized corruption ring allegedly involving several members of parliament and several members of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office.
