“We are not Venezuela, we are Iran, and Iran will never fear US threats,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with a Turkish media outlet.

Araghchi claimed that Israel had believed it could weaken Iran through a short campaign of strikes, but that this had not happened in reality. He alleged that the Israeli strikes had been made possible by leaked intelligence from within Iran, and said there might still be security weaknesses behind the attacks that had not yet been fully addressed.

He further claimed that people linked to Israel’s intelligence agency had known that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was present at his office every morning. Araghchi said a plan to close the Strait of Hormuz in the event of an attack on the Supreme Leader had been prepared in advance.

The foreign minister also said the initial ceasefire with the United States had been reached with the approval of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. “Iran took part in the talks to test diplomatic efforts, and there has been lengthy discussion over whether to resume negotiations,” he said.
