Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that for the next 30 days, full control and oversight of the Strait of Hormuz will remain in Iran’s hands, with no role for any other party or state. He made the remarks during a visit to Iraq on Sunday (28 June).

Araghchi said: “I briefed my Iraqi counterpart on the latest situation of the war imposed on Iran and on the latest progress of the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the United States.”

He said that for the next 30 days the Strait of Hormuz would be entirely under Iran’s supervision and management. Once all obstacles were removed, the strait’s full capacity would be restored, and Iran was working towards that goal, he said.

The Iranian foreign minister added that this was the responsibility of the Islamic Republic of Iran, with no role for any other party or state. The MoU made this entirely clear, he said, and any kind of interference or unilateral step would further complicate the situation and delay the process of fully reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
