Bangladesh will import five more cargoes of liquefied natural gas in August, with a combined volume of about 16 million million British thermal units (MMBtu).
Petrobangla director of finance AKM Mizanur Rahman said the five cargoes had been secured through spot, long-term and short-term contracts to stabilize gas supply. Bangladesh imports LNG from all three sources to meet rising energy demand, with each cargo averaging about 3.2 million MMBtu.
Nine cargoes will arrive this month; four have already arrived. Their combined volume is about 28.8 million MMBtu. One cargo was bought under a long-term contract, five under short-term contracts and three on the spot market. The remaining shipments are due on August 17, 21, 23, 27 and 30. Eleven cargoes totaling about 35.2 million MMBtu were imported in July.
